About Us
Surrey Hampshire Family Therapy & Systemic Practice Training Collaborative is a group of independent family and systemic psychotherapists working in partnership with Surrey and Borders NHS Foundation Trust. Our aim is to support the development of the local systemic workforce, helping families and communities to create hopeful possibilities. Our over-arching ethos is that of inclusivity and respect for race, class, culture, gender, sexual orientation, age, disability, and religion. All involved in the course are expected to take a proactive stance towards promoting equality and challenging discrimination. We use language and action that reflects a focus on the importance of social justice. We have been developing communities of systemic practice over the past two decades. Our learning is based on valuing contribution and co-creating knowledge together.
Family Therapy and Systemic Practice Courses
The Foundation and Intermediate courses offer training in the concepts and skills of Family and Systemic Psychotherapy. Both courses are accredited with the UK Association for Family and Systemic Psychotherapy (AFSP). The training is suitable for practitioners working in a variety of settings, such as Health, Social Care and Education. The participants will be expected to apply learning from the course to their work setting during the course.

Foundation Level
The Foundation Level Course in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy is accredited by The Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice in the UK (AFT).
AFT promotes training in systemic approaches for all those working with adults, children, families, individuals, couples, and other relationship groups, and sets standards and accredits training in supervision and evidence-based approaches. These standards cover the four-year part time training to become a Family and Systemic Psychotherapist.
The Foundation training year can be taken as a standalone training or as a foundation for further training. Those entering the training will usually have a qualification in a recognised mental health or social care related profession.
Intermediate Level
The Intermediate Level Course in Family and Systemic Psychotherapy is accredited by The Association for Family Therapy and Systemic Practice in the UK (AFT).
This one-year Intermediate level course in Systemic Practice has been devised in accordance with guidelines and requirements set out by the United Kingdom Council for Psychotherapy (UKCP), of which AFT is a member.
Once the Intermediate course has been completed, students can apply for the Qualifying level of Family & Systemic Psychotherapy training. This is a further two academic years and at the end they could be eligible to apply for UKCP Registration as a Family & Systemic Psychotherapist. However, the Intermediate level course can also stand alone and provides a relevant, advanced training in systemic theory and practice.
